Home to a dynamic community, beautiful countryside, and local businesses & amenities. First recorded as Malpertesselle in 1086, through to adopting the name of Meppershall in 1806, the historic village is home to a number of listed buildings.
...but placed in a dismal country upon a wretched soil, in a starving village, with roads nearly impassable: (nothing but force could set me down in such a place).
John Byng, Traveller and author of The Torrington Diaries, 1794 who described his first impressions of Meppershall
Nestled in the heart of the Bedfordshire countryside, Meppershall is a vibrant and growing community that prides itself on its friendly spirit and rich heritage. From the historic 12th-century architecture of St Mary’s Church to our modern Village Hall, we offer a perfect balance of rural charm and contemporary living.

CBC equips each Meppershall household with 4 refuse bins: one with a green top for refuse that can be recycled, one with a black top for refuse that has to go into landfill, one that is all green for garden waste, and a brown bin for food waste.
Central Bedfordshire Council has more details of what can go into which bin. Black bins are emptied on alternate Wednesdays from the all-green & green-lid bin. Food waste is collected separately: each household has a small brown “caddy” for the kitchen, for which CBC provides biodegradable liners. Full liners can be decanted into the larger brown bin, which is emptied every week. All bins due for collection have to be put out before 7am on Wednesday mornings.
Several Tidy Tips are approximately equidistant from Meppershall: Biggleswade Tidy Tip, next to Sainsbury’s on the A1; Ampthill Tidy Tip on Abbey Lane off Oliver Street, and Letchworth Household Waste Recycling Centre, Blackhorse Road, Letchworth Garden City.
Meppershall Bottle Bank is in the car park outside the Village Hall, where residents can also find charity donation bins.
